Online Vocational Courses


CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development
This course can be considered as the basic vocational qualification to work in the childcare and education sector. It provides the necessary knowledge and understanding to work with children from birth to 16 years in a variety of support roles in childcare settings as well as in primary and secondary schools. 

It also serves as the underpinning knowledge course for the work-based NVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development. No prior work experience is necessary for this course; it lasts 20 weeks.

CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development
Individuals wishing to work in supervisory roles within the birth to 16 years age range should take up this course. It provides the underpinning knowledge of child development and of issues related to working with children. The course lasts 32 weeks.

Work-based NVQs

CACHE NVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
This course is meant for individuals who are currently working in a supervised capacity. The course is expected to last no more than 12 months.

CACHE NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
It is recommended that NVQ Level 3 should be undertaken by those who have at least one year experience of working within a childcare and education setting. The achievement of NVQ level 3 could take between 18-24 months.

CACHE NVQ Level 4 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
NVQ at Level 4 is recommended for those who are currently performing at senior or managerial levels in childcare and education settings. The candidates are expected to achieve the qualification within two years.

Guidance for NVQs

Please note the following before considering NVQ qualifications:

  • NVQ qualifications are only available if individuals are working within an appropriate setting
  • The courses involve assessment of candidates' performance in their  roles by assessors
  • NVQs by nature are candidate-led qualifications and therefore the pace is determined by the candidate. The duration mentioned above is the expected time frame for each level and will vary according to the needs of a candidate
